NDIS breakfast

NDIS breakfast

On Thursday 27th July, the Capricornia Chamber of Commerce hosted a special breakfast eventto help local businesses better understand the business opportunities associated with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and how to position their business to take an active part.  Almost 100 guests from a wide range of business sectors heard guest speakers from the National Disability Insurance Agency describe how the Scheme works, the economic benefits and business opportunities.

The NDIS has been touted as one of the biggest national policy reforms in generations and it will roll out in Central Queensland from the 1st of November.  It is about to change the lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians.  By 2019, the Scheme is expected to support about 460,000 Australians with disability and invest $22 billion a year in services and equipment.  In our region (Rockhampton, Gladstone and west to border) it is projected that the number of Participants will increase from the current 2500 to 4900; the number of Employees will increase from 800 to 1800 FTE, and the total government funding spend will increase from $90m to $220m per annum.
