National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS): Important information for businesses

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS): Important information for businesses

The introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is creating opportunities for businesses and organisations both within and outside of the traditional disability services sector.

When fully operational, it is estimated that the NDIS will inject around $4 billion into the Queensland economy each year, as more than 90,000 Queenslanders with disability become a powerful group of consumers exercising choice over how their services are delivered and who delivers them.

Data from the first year of the NDIS transition in Queensland has been released, which may help inform businesses in their decision making about opportunities the NDIS is creating. One year on there is valuable information known about how the NDIS is rolling out including:

  • profile of participants;
  • levels of demand;
  • areas of support and service demand;
  • purchasing timeframes and;
  • participant behaviours.

This information was presented to the disability sector in a series of briefings and is now available on the Queensland NDIS website. We also encourage you to sign up to the NDIS e-news to keep up to date on the NDIS rollout in Queensland and relevant events.
